Eric Bryant, Lead Navigator from Mosaic in SA

BSM is blessed to announce that Eric Bryant, Lead Navigator at Mosaic (in some church terms-associate pastor) will be in San Antonio on July 31 (Friday Night). He will be speaking on the topic: "Hindus, Homosexuals and the Hard to Reach: Sharing Christ in a Post-Christian Culture."

Eric is a remarkable man who fleshes out what he preaches-love is the framework for all we do as followers of Christ. At Mosaic, they are reaching people that most traditional churches never reach (and many would not consider reaching out to!)-this is a free event and you are invited.

We meet in the JPL Auditorium, Friday, July 31 from 7:00-9:00. Refreshments will be provided. We will have a time to fellowship at the beginning, Eric will speak and we will follow that up with a 30 minute time of Q and A. Again, admission is free-but seating is limited to the first 200.

Why Communitas?

Communitas is a word and concept I learned from reading Alan Hirsch's wonderful book: "The Forgotten Ways."

Hirsch seeks to rediscover what he calls the original "Apostolic Genius" that was a part of the early church's spiritual DNA. The early church was highly missional and grew from approximately 25,000 followers to 25 million in a short period of time. One of the core elements Hirsch fleshes out is that of "Communitas."

Hirsch writes: "Communitas not Community: The most vigorous forms of community are those that come together in the context of a shared ordeal or, communities who define themselves as a group with a mission that lies beyond themselves—thus initiating a risky journey. Over-concern with safety and security, combined with comfort and convenience, have lulled us out of our true calling and purpose. Everyone loves an adventure. Or do we?"

I pray this journal in some way stimulates our desire for authentic communitas within our families, churches and faith communities. Following Christ is and should be anything but safe and comfortable!
